The students knew they had pals in the other grade level, but they did not know their "pal" in person yet. The next activity was to write three clues for their "pal" to be able to identify them when they met.
Finally, the day came that both classes coincided at the playground. With clues in hand, the pals looked for each other until everyone met their buddies. Mrs. Oates commented: "My favorite part of this experience was their meeting day. I could see how the older kids positioned themselves as mentors for the younger ones." Mrs. Trizinsky's class said: "meeting our pals was super exciting and we are really looking forward to serving as mentors to and setting examples for the younger students".
The Collab-Lab will continue to develop, as the students have communicated their excitement and willingness to meet their pals for other activities.
